How Can You Become Infected With HIV?
Bodily Fluids….
1. Blood
2. Semen (cum)
3. Pre-seminal Fluid (pre-cum)
4. Rectal Fluids
5. Vaginal Fluids
6. Breast Milk
****These Fluids Must Come Into Contact With Mucous Membranes (Oral, Anal, Penis or Vagina) or Damaged Tissues or Be Directly Injected Into Your Bloodstream(Syringe/Needles, Rinse Water or Other Equipment ‘Works’ used to Prepare Injection Drugs) *****
***HIV can survive in a used needle for up to 42 Days Depending on Temperature and Other Factors***

The Best Way To Stay Aware and Protected is to Get Tested!!!!
***HIV Infection Won’t Show Up on a HIV Test Immediately, so it is Recommended to Be Tested Every 3 to 6 Months, Depending Upon How Many Sexual Partners You Have, as well as other Risk Factors (Ex. IV Drug Abuse)***

******THE RISK OF TRANSMISSION OF HIV/AIDS TO YOUR UNBORN CHILD IS 15-45% IF YOU ARE UNTREATED!!!!!!!*********
1. Medications to treat HIV/AIDS decreases the risk of transmission of the disease to your unborn child to less than 1%****
2. You can safely continue MOST of your HIV/AIDS medications, if pregnant
3. Babies born to women with HIV/AIDS receive HIV medication for 6 weeks after birth to decrease the chance of contracting the virus
(Check with your Physician or HCP about all of your medications, once you become aware that you are pregnant!!!!)

***Recommendations Vary Based Upon Where You Live in the World***
**In the U.S.A. it is recommended to Avoid Breastfeeding if the Mother is HIV Positive
**In Developing Countries, where the access to clean water, sterile supplies and Infant Formula may be lacking, there are alternate recommendations**
1. WHO (World Health Organization) recommends that HIV Positive Mothers or their Infants take Anti-retroviral Medications throughout the Period of Breastfeeding and until the infant is 12 Months of Age.
2. Kesho Bora Study…….42% Reduction in HIV Transmission to Infants when HIV Positive Mothers were treated with Anti-Retrovirals Meds During Pregnancy, Delivery and Breastfeeding.
