For those who have emerged victorious in the #MatchDay2019, my congratulations and prayers for an exhilarating and successful journey through residency and beyond!!
I can only tell you that the time, sacrifice and lessons learned will be far beyond anything you could ever imagine.
Always remember to care for your patients, colleagues, community and yourselves, as if those are the most important gifts, because they are.
For those who did not match, and may still be ‘scrambling’ for a position, know that I too traveled that road and understand the crushing disappointment and disillusionment you are likely feeling at this moment.
Please believe that although painful, this experience will make you a better physician, person, and most of all, better advocate for those principles that we all uphold as crucial to our very existence-persistence, belief and working even when we don’t know where the road ends. You will get ‘there’, I am living prove of that reality. And don’t worry because your life, thus far, has not turned out as you imagined, it never does, and that’s OK.
